Global warming and pollution are destroying the planet and causing climate changes all around the world. These changes are affecting people and the environment in many different ways. There are several things that people can, and should do, to prevent it. Global warming is being caused by pollution. According to The United States environment Protection Agency (EPA), "Over the past century, human activities have released large amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The majority greenhouse gases come from burning fossil fuels to produce energy, although deforestation, industrial processes, and some agricultural practices also emit gases into atmosphere. Greenhouse gases act like a blanket around Earth, trapping energy in the atmosphere and causing it to warm. This phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect and is natural and necessary to support life on Earth. However, the buildup of greenhouse gases can change Earth's climate and result in dangerous effects to human health and welfare and to ecosiystems." Global warming is causing a greenhouse affect around the earth and affecting people and the environment in several different ways, such as hurricanes and severe heat waves. In an article Stephanie Tunmore wrote for green peace, she said, "Scientists in the USA have found that the earth is warming faster than at any time since the last ice age 11,300 years ago and maybe even further back. They found that most of that warming has happened in the last 100 years and cannot be explained by natural temperature variation. From about 4,500 years ago to roughly 100 years ago, global average temperatures cooled by 0.7 degrees Celsius. But over the past century, the climate has recovered that warmth thanks to rising carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels and deforestation." All of these impacts humanity and environment in a negative way. "Repeated exposure to ozone pollution may cause permanent damage to the lungs. Because ozone pollution usually forms in hot weather, anyone who spends time outdoors in the summer may be affected especially Children, the elderly, outdoor workers and people exercising. Ground level ozone damage plant life. It interferes with the ability of plants to produce and store food, making them more susceptible to disease. Bad ozone damages the foliage of trees and other plants, ruining the landscape of cities, national forest, and recreation areas". (Thomas Gale -Pollution- 34).The impacts are noticeable in the water, forest and agriculture. How state in an article "Climate change will have major and unpredictable effects on the world's water system, including an increase in floods and droughts. Extremes in droughts and flooding will became more common, causing displacement and conflict. Less fresh water means less agriculture, food and income. Forest do so much they purify the air, improve water quality, keep soils intact, provide food, wood products and medicines. Forest also help protect the planet from climate change by absorbing massive amounts of carbon dioxide CO2 a major source of pollution that causes climate change. Climate change poses a significant risk of increased crop failure, loss of livestock and will impact in food security. In some areas drier and warmer conditions are predicted, elsewhere wetter and cooler conditions are expected wish will affect agricultural practices. Fortunately there are ways to reduce the effects. One way to reduce the effects. Is energy efficiency, this reduces carbon dioxide and CO2 emissions. Another way is renewable energy, generated from natural sources, for example, water, wind, solar, biomass or geothermal. This will play a key role in replacing the world dependence on fossil fuel based energy sources. The next way is carbon capture and storage, (CCS) istechnology that removes and stores the CO2 during the production of energy from, fossil fuels. Lastly will be preventing forest loose, this will go a long way to reducing the heat of climate change". (WWF) If humanity made all these changes reduce global warming and change the world. Thate changes are necessary, if every person in the world does their part there is potential for a big change towards a better life.
Essay Writing Checklist
The following guidelines are designed to give students a checklist to use, whether they are revising individually or as part of a peer review team.
Introduction
  • Is the main idea (i.e., the writer's opinion of the story title) stated clearly?
  • Is the introductory paragraph interesting? Does it make the reader want to keep on reading?
Body Paragraph
  • Does each body paragraph have a clear topic sentence that is related to the main idea of the essay?
  • Does each body paragraph include specific information from the text(including quoted evidence from the text, if required by the instructor)that supports the topic sentence?
  • Is there a clear plan for the order of the body paragraphs (i.e., order of importance, chronology in the story, etc.)?
  • Does each body paragraph transition smoothly to the next?
Conclusion
  • Is the main idea of the essay restated in different words?
  • Are the supporting ideas summarized succinctly and clearly?
  • Is the concluding paragraph interesting? Does it leave an impression on the reader?
Overall Essay
  • Is any important material left unsaid?
  • Is any material repetitious and unnecessary?
  • Has the writer tried to incorporate "voice" in the essay so that it has his/her distinctive mark?
  • Are there changes needed in word choice, sentence length and structure, etc.?
  • Are the quotations (if required) properly cited?
  • Has the essay been proofread for spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.?
  • Does the essay have an interesting and appropriate title?
