As you grow up the urge to be a part of something grows unconsciously. Especially as a growing adolescent, interests and experiences bigger than yourself can have a positive or negative effect on your life. In certain cases a childhood interest can grow into an unconditional love. Soccer has become way more than an interest, and without it I would certainly be lost. Looking back now I would have never guessed the impact it would have on me. The seven-year-old me, who thought soccer could just be a way to occupy my time, would be seriously shocked of how much more rewarding it truly is. Soccer has a huge special meaning that no one can fully ever understand. Soccer relieves any stress I ever feel, and once replaced an absence in my life that I had difficulty reacting properly to. Soccer started for me when I was seven years old. My mother tried to sign me up for anything she could due to my rambunctious childhood ways. Usually after all my activities it was much easier to get the much hyper, younger me to bathe and into bed. So when my mom brought up the idea of playing soccer, it seemed like another opportunity to get out of my house and try something new. In the beginning I actually enjoyed it, even though I was clueless to what I was doing. I was that kid that would go the wrong way or whiff and miss the ball every time it came to me. Slowly as the years went by, my love for the sport became even stronger. Soccer started as a time waster and now it's the only thing I want to do when I have free time. As a teenager finding ways to cope with stress is important. Finding stress relievers that are encouraging are important to staying on a positive path. Soccer is the only thing that can seem to calm my nerves, and forget all the stresses of school and life. It's a time for me where nothing matters except the field, my team, the soccer ball, and goal net. Having the time to relax and joy what you love makes things way better. The running becomes exhilarating, like nothing can ever hurt me. The shooting of the ball helps with any aggression I have before stepping on the field. Just the smells of soccer I've become accustomed to enjoying. The smell of the field and its organic aroma eases me to my core. Even my cleats, which to some make them gag, have a fragrance that can remind me of determination and not to ever let someone take what you want. Soccer calms me when simply nothing else can. All the stresses of projects, essays, and tests are left on the field letting me unwind. The sport, soccer, alone is not the only reason it has special meaning to me. But also the people I have fortunately gotten to meet while playing. Thankfully these people filled a gap in my heart that needed to be patched. After my parents' divorce, my dad did his random disappearing acts for a while. Without the father figure I needed as a growing youth, I began to look to others. The soccer league I was part of was super close knit, and I thought of some of the coaches as surrogate fathers. I looked to them and they started teaching me life lessons my own dad could not. The coaches at my soccer league have shaped me into the strong young woman I am becoming today. Without soccer who knows where I would be. Soccer has helped me meet extraordinary people, whose thoughts will stick for a lifetime. Interests can turn into something more than ever expected, and can grow into something special. Soccer is now a passion of mine that I will have the rest of my life. Soccer has and always will get me through my rough patches. During times where I felt down I could rely on soccer to get me through. Something that started as an interest has turned into a forever long connection. I plan on never stop playing soccer, even if it's just playing with a group of friends in a backyard. Even though it seems like it's only a sport it means the world to me. I will have a love for soccer for a lifetime.
